Website vs Facebook Page: Do You Really Need Both?

A lot of small South African businesses run entirely on a Facebook page, and do just fine. So it's a fair question: if Facebook is free and easy, do you really need a website too?

Here's the honest answer.

What a Facebook page does well

Facebook is brilliant for reach and word of mouth. People share, comment and recommend, and it costs nothing to start. For staying visible and building a following, it's a genuinely powerful tool — which is exactly why we offer social media marketing as a service.

What a Facebook page can't do

  • You don't own it. Facebook owns your page. Rules change, reach drops, accounts get locked — and your entire online presence is at their mercy.
  • It won't rank on Google. When someone Googles your service, a Facebook page rarely shows up the way a proper website does.
  • It looks less established. A business with only a Facebook page can read as smaller or less serious than one with its own site.

What a website does that Facebook can't

A website is yours. It ranks on Google, it works 24/7, it presents your business exactly how you want, and it's the credible home base customers expect. It's the one part of your online presence you fully control.

The answer: both, working together

You don't choose between them. Your website is your home base — owned, findable, credible. Your Facebook page drives reach and sends people back to it. Together they're far stronger than either alone.
